Avalanche Skills Training Level 1+

The AST Level 1 Course provides an entry level decision making framework for those people who would like to learn about travel in avalanche terrain but have basic training and little experience.

Our AST (Avalanche Skills Training) Level 1 courses meet or exceed Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA) requirements in terms of classroom and time in the field. Classroom sessions will be done online with text, informative photos and videos, and additional reading materials.

Avalanche_Canada_ast provider

Courses are designed for all skiers and boarders of an intermediate ability or better. Competence in untracked and variable snow is preferred. Moderate fitness level (able to hike uphill with a small backpack for up to 2 hours at a time). Please understand the goal of our courses is education. The necessary time will be spent in the appropriate terrain to learn about how we make decisions in the backcountry. If you just want to ski powder, please choose our Backcountry Freeride program.

$400/person + 5% GST (min. 4 people)

  • Certified guide for the day (maximum 6 guests per guide)
  • Group equipment (first aid and rescue equipment, radio, glacier travel gear)
  • Transport to/from Whistler Village
  • Backcountry rental gear ( ski touring skis/splitboard, climbing skins, beacon, probe , shovel, and back pack.
  • Valid lift ticket, or backcountry lift ticket
  • Lunch and Regular riding equipment (boots, gloves, goggles, hat, and neck gaitor)
  • Water bottle

Avalanche Skills Training Level 2

This course expands on what we teach in the AST Level 1 course, with the goal of being able to make decisions in more complicated terrain.

Glacier Travelling

Like skiing in the alpine? Learn the ins and outs of skiing safely in glacial terrain, outside of the ski area. We run custom courses which suit your schedule.
Our glacier travel clinics teach you the basics about understanding glaciers, the equipment you will need, and how to use it, in order to travel safely in the winter glacier country.

Courses are designed for all skiers and boarders of an intermediate ability or better. Competence in untracked and variable snow is preferred. $350/person + 5% GST (min. 4 people) depending on location

Backcountry Skills

Want to take it to the next level? Feel comfortable in the backcountry but want to be able to thrive in the backcountry environment? This course is for you. From outdoor survival skills and equipment, to improvised resuce skills, this course shows you the ins and outs of what to carry and how to use it to become a self sufficient backcountry traveller and outdoor leader.

Courses are designed for all skiers and boarders of an intermediate ability or better. Competence in untracked and variable snow is preferred. Moderate fitness level (able to hike uphill with a small backpack for up to 2 hours at a time). Please understand the goal of our courses is education. The necessary time will be spent in the appropriate terrain to learn about how we make decisions in the backcountry. If you just want to ski powder, please choose out Backcountry Freeride program.

$200/person + 5% GST (min 3 people)

  • 2 instructional days
