Intro to the Backcountry

Let us introduce you to the backcountry. We will focus on getting to the know the equipment we use in the backcountry, and improving our skills both on the uphill and the down. Most important of all, the tour will be customized to your ability and fitness.
We will take you on a backcountry journey where we will combine learning, adventure, and of course great powder turns!

This program is designed for skiers and boarders of and intermediate through expert ability. No experience in the backcountry is necessary but you should feel comfortable on all black runs in the ski resort, and have a need to ride powder! A minimum of a moderate fitness level is required (you are able to hike uphill with a small backpack for up to 2 hours at a time). Travel may include bootpacking and carrying skis for short sections to access ski lines. The fitter you are the more you will be able to get out of this tour!

  • $700/day/group + 5% GST for lift access guiding via Whistler Blackcomb.
  • $750/day/group + 5% GST for Squamish/Duffey Lake venues  (max 4 people)
  • Certified guide for the day (maximum 4 guests per guide)
  • Group equipment (first aid and rescue equipment, radio, glacier travel gear)
  • Personal backcountry equipment ( ski touring skis/splitboard, climbing skins, beacon, probe , shovel, harness, and back pack).
  • Valid lift ticket, or backcountry lift ticket
  • Lunch and Regular riding equipment (boots, gloves, goggles, hat, and neck gaitor)
  • Water bottle

  • 0830
    Head up the ski lifts of Whistler/Blackcomb to make our way out of bounds.
  • 0900
    Safety orientation. learn to use avalanche safety equipment.
  • 1000-1500
    Guided backcountry skiing and instruction.
  • 1530-1600
    Return to Whistler village

Backcountry Freeride

Let us take you to the best riding the backcountry has to offer! Big alpine faces, couloirs,  glacial valleys, and tree skiing powder stashes when it storms. We will select, or can help you choose a suitable objective for the day, based on the weather, snow and avalanche conditions. Whether it is riding a line that you have seen from the resort, enjoying some of our favourite backcountry zones, or learning ways to travel in big mountain terrain.

  • 1000-1600
    Guided backcountry skiing and instruction.

    Return to Whistler village.

Typical intinery for skiing out of Pemberton or Squamish

    Meet your guide, organise backcountry equipment and waiver signing

    Leave Whistler and take a beautiful drive to the ski touring zones either north or south of Whistler
  • 0830
    Safety orientation. learn to use avalanche safety equipment.
  • 0900-1530
    Guided backcountry skiing and instruction.
  • 1530
    Travel back to whistler
  • 1700
    Arrival back in Whistler village

Helicopter Assisted Ski Touring

The perfect way to enjoy alpine ski touring, with a helicopter lift to your ski zone for the day. Depending on location, we will either return to a vehicle at the end of the day, or fly back to the Heliport.

This program is designed for skiers and boarders of and advanced or expert ability. No experience in the backcountry is necessary but you should feel comfortable on all black runs in the ski resort, and have a need to ride powder! A minimum of a moderate fitness level is required (you are able to hike uphill with a small backpack for up to 2 hours at a time). Travel may include bootpacking and carrying skis for short sections to access ski lines. The fitter you are the more you will be able to ski!

Price is dependent on flight time for ski zone (max 4 people)

  • Certified guide for the day (maximum 4 guests per guide)
  • Backcountry rental gear ( ski touring skis/splitboard, climbing skins, beacon, probe, shovel, harness, and back pack).
  • Regular riding equipment (boots, gloves, goggles, hat, and neck gaitor)
  • Water bottle and food for day
  • 0800-0830
    Meet at heliport for orientations and waiver signing
  • 0830-0900
    Depart for skiing
  • 1500-1600
    Return from skiing (return time deptermined by weather, daylight, and group fitness/ability)
  • 1630-1730
    Usual arrival time back at Whistler village
